Mossie’s Irish Tours: Guides

Meet Mossie of Mossie’s Tours
I was born in Baile an Lochaigh, a little village in the West Kerry Gaeltacht district of Corca Dhuibhne, at the foot of Mount Brandan, the fifth in a family of thirteen – ten boys and three girls. We were brought up on a small farm of 30 acres. Irish was our daily language in the community around us. Although we used to have lessons in English at St Eirc’s school we did not use it much until we had left the district, only now and then if a non-Irish speaking stranger came. In fact, it took some time after we had left home for good before we felt comfortable speaking English.
I was immersed in Irish music and culture from the cradle. On my mother’s side, the Moriarty’s were themselves steeped in traditional song for generations back. Among my earliest ‘heroes’ was my mother, her sister Kathleen and her brothers Páid, Tony and Mike Moriarty. They were a great influence on me. I well remember when my aunt Kathleen, who performed in New York’s Carnegie Hall in 1948, used to come home from America, they often would all come together at our house and we used to get great enjoyment from the music and the songs, most of them in Irish.
Mossie, steeped in the culture of Ireland, has produced three music albums and published, in Irish, his own autobiography. As a musician and author, you will become immersed in the landscape with his Irish music, song, poetry and storytelling.
Mossie is a famous singer: you can follow him on Youtube and Spotify
Rugadh agus tógadh i mBaile an Lochaigh mé, baile beag i nGaeltacht Chorca Dhuibhne, ag bun Chnoc Bréanainn, an cúigiú duine as trí dhuine dhéag – deichniúr buachaillí agus triúr cailíní. Tógadh ar fheirm bheag 30 acra sinn. Ba í an Ghaeilge an teanga a d’úsáideamar go laethúil sa phobal timpeall orainn. Cé go raibh roinnt ranganna againn i mBéarla i Scoil Naomh Eirc, níor úsáideamar puinn é, go dtí gur fhágamar an áit agus ó am go chéile nuair a thagadh strainséirí nach raibh Gaeilge acu. Thóg sé roinnt mhaith ama, tar éis dúinn an baile a bheith fágtha againn, go dtí gur bhraitheamar ar ár gcompord ag labhairt as Béarla.
Bhíos tumtha i gceol agus i gcultúr na hÉireann ón gcliabhán. Ar thaobh mo mháthar, bhí na Muircheartaigh tumtha iad féin sa cheol traidisiúnta riamh anall. I measc na laochra is mó a bhí agam agus mé óg, bhí m’aintín Caitlín agus m’uncail Páid, Tony agus Mike Ó Muircheartaigh. Bhí tionchar ana-mhór acu orm. Is cuimhin liom go maith nuair a thagadh m’aintín Caitlín, a bhí ar stáitse i Carnegie Hall i Nua-Eabhrac, abhaile ó Mheiriceá, thagaimis go léir le chéile inár dtigh-ne, agus bhainimis ana-thaitneamh as an gceol agus na hamhráin, a bhformhór acu as Gaeilge.
Is duine e Mossie a fuineadh i gcultúr na hÉireann agus tá trí albam ceoil eisithe aige chomh maith le dírbheathaisnéis as Gaolainn. Braithfidh tú a rian san ar na turasanna a thugann sé mar go bhfuilid lán de cheol, amhráin, filíocht is insint scéalta.
Meet Helen of Mossie’s Tours
I was born on a farm in Baile an Fhaoitigh, in a townland, three miles east of Dingle. The youngest of nine, our family were deeply passionate in Gaelic sports and politics. My own passion for nature, sustainability, community and plant-based living brought me a deeper connection to the Dingle Peninsula. Growing up in a household with a love of the Irish language and culture, I love to share our language and culture with our guests throughout your time with us.
I often combine my experience with Mossies’ to create a perfect tour guide combination with a blend of what we both have to offer.
Spirituality by Helen
A wisdom of Divinity,
A bounty of Love,
Pure,
Free,
gently emanating from the Source of cohesion,
like the gentle whisper of angel’s wings,
billowing through the aeons of forever.
It’s richness of spirit nursing life,
Like the tender touch of the morning dew,
Cherishing the building blocks of each foundation.
(foundation = all life forms))
With a passion for the land, archaeology, Irish language and heritage of the Dingle Peninsula, I love to share my local expertise and experience in the goodness and fulfilment of land and sea; wellbeing in mind, body and soul; and the rejuvenation that comes from connecting with the local culture, people and place. I endeavour to transform a guided curated tour to an experience of a lifetime sharing my own favourite places and historical knowledge with you as you journey through the landscape.
Rugadh mise i mBaile an Fhaoitigh, baile fearainn in aice le Daingean Uí Chúis. Is mise an té is óige as naonúr clainne. Bhí ana-spéis ag mo mhuintir sa pheil Ghaelach agus sa pholaitíocht. Táim féin ana-thógtha leis an nádúr, inmharthanacht, pobal agus aiste bídh bunaithe ar phlandaí. Bhí ana-mheas ar an nGaolainn agus ar an gcultúr sa tigh agus mé ag fás aníos agus is maith liom é sin a roinnt le mo chuairteoirí.

"Mossie brought so much insight, knowledge and fun to the Dingle Peninsula drive. Since he grew up in the Dingle area, he brought in many personal stories about the area. Thank goodness that he was driving, as that left us to view the amazing scenery. He also was able to get into so many beautiful spots, that we never could have gotten to. Highly recommend this Tour!!"

Cat
"Helen led our small group of friends on the half day Dingle tour, it was better than we could have imagined. We learned so much about the history and culture of the beautiful people and country of Ireland! It was a pure delight, I highly recommend this tour!"

Robin T
"Helen was wonderful. She picked us up at Murphys’ Bed and Breakfast in the pouring rain. She showed us the lookout on Conor’s pass so we could come back later. It was too foggy to see anything. Then we headed on the Slea Head road. What a beautiful drive. Helen showed us Skellig Michael (Star Wars) location and all of the locations spots where they shot “Ryan’s Daughter”. My dad has Alzheimer’s and sat in the front with Helen asking the same questions over and over and she was patient and wonderful. We really appreciated that. Highly recommend trip with Helen!!!"

Micheal M
"Having Mossie as our guide for a three-day private tour of Kerry and Dingle proved to be the highlight of our entire trip to Ireland. His extensive local and historical knowledge combined with his flexible, easygoing approach allowed us to trust in his every recommendation, while still maintaining the ability to tailor each day to our own pace and interests (including seeing several sites that the big tour buses cannot reach). And his charming wit and sparkling conversation along the way made him a most welcome and memorable addition to our family vacation. It was truly a pleasure getting to know him -- I couldn't imagine touring Ireland with anyone else!"
