Beehive Huts
Dingle Peninsula
Located along the Slea Head Drive at Fahan, these Beehive huts present insights of early Irish life and for younger members of the family, combine a little adventure with “Hold a Baby Lamb”.
Known in Irish as “clocháin”, these dry-stone structures were built by monks or hermits between the 6th and 12th centuries without the use of mortar. Their distinctive dome-shaped design, resembling a beehive, demonstrates impressive ancient engineering, as the overlapping stones have withstood centuries of Atlantic storms. The Fahan group includes several well-preserved huts, offering a glimpse into monastic life and self-sufficiency during early medieval times. Surrounded by the rugged landscape of Kerry and with views towards the Blasket Islands, these huts are a powerful reminder of Ireland’s spiritual and cultural heritage.
